Students could consider what the issues and developments were that brought about the establishment of the NHS. They could investigate the arguments that were raised for and against the NHS when it was being set up and explore why the establishment of the NHS has been seen by many as an important part of twentieth century British history. Pupils could use visual literacy as part of their work and discuss what messages the ceremony is trying to get across. Students could then make informed judgements about the value of visual and musical interpretations and representations of history.
