The challenge of this task is to use a recycled library card to create a picture. A line of differing building shapes is created by scraping paint into blocks of dark colour with the piece of card. Dots and streaks of light are added using primary colours and white to represent lights at night-time. The buildings are mirrored in the river in the foreground of the picture. An impressionistic style is used rather than being a faithfully accurate reproduction. The effect is a silhouetted New York style skyline with illuminated buildings reflected in the river.
Children could create cityscape strips that can be joined to form a longer skyline. They could practise creating reflections of buildings and lights in horizontal symmetry.
