A typical school day for a primary school student in China. Students usually learn the Mandarin language, Literature, Maths, English, and Moral Education. Every Monday morning each primary school has a National flag-raising ceremony and every morning at about ten o'clock students go to the sports ground to do morning exercises. PE and Art are usually in the afternoon timetable. Moral Education lessons are very important for students to learn to be a good citizen.

Use this clip to introduce school and subject vocabulary. Students could create a timetable for the day shown in the Chinese school. They could then create their own visual timetable for display using Mandarin to describe each subject. Students could also explore other examples of classroom language and label their equipment in Mandarin. Classroom commands could also be spoken in Mandarin across all subjects and the students could respond to the register in the morning in Mandarin.
