Sawm, the requirement to fast during Ramadan, is the third of the Five Pillars of Islam. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Muslim calendar, and special because it was the month the Prophet first began to receive revelations of the Qur'an from Allah. During this month, Muslims give up food, liquid and smoking between the hours of daylight for 29 or 30 days of Ramadan.

This clip could be used as part of teaching about the 5 Pillars of Islam. Pupils could be asked to write the script for 1, 2, 3 or 4 of the other Pillars, in the same style and using the same characters as in the clip. Pupils can then learn from religion by starting with the thought that "When their wages come, good Muslims give 2.5% to charity - my attitude to charity is.....; Once in a lifetime, Muslims go on pilgrimage to Mecca - in my life my big ambition is.....; 5 times a day, Muslims pray - every day I try to.....; All the time Muslims believe there is one God, his name is Allah and Muhammed is his messenger - all the time I believe....."
