Jimmy quizzes consumers about what breakfast cereals are made from and explains that they are all made from grains. He makes some popcorn to illustrate that when heated the corn bursts out of its jacket. This same principle is used to make puffed rice. Jimmy recreates how a food factory would puff the rice using a high pressure cannon.

Could be used to develop understanding of the ingredients and processes involved in making breakfast cereals. The clip explains the scientific principles involved in transforming rice grains into puffed rice. Students might be prompted to reflect on the difference between the samples produced in the clip and commercial products, and the factors that would need to be overcome to improve the quality of the samples (avoiding burning or over-cooking of the cereal.)
