An introduction to eye surgeons who are investigating the condition of detached retinas in patients.

The majority of the clip focuses on the structure of the eye and the functions of its individual parts. Detail regarding the retina, cornea, iris, lens and optic nerve are given together with a computer graphic of their position and function.

After watching the clip, students could be asked to list the major parts of the eye. A flow diagram could be created that explains each stage of the seeing process. Students could take apart discarded cameras and relate its components to those of the eye (this works with both analogue and digital cameras).
