Jimmy Doherty discovers how sugar is refined. He takes a tour of a sugar factory and watches each stage of the production process, from the sugar beet, to the bag on the supermarket shelf.
This clip could be used to teach how sugar is refined, and the chemistry behind the production process. While watching the clip, students could take notes to record each stage in the production of sugar, using pictures and symbols to remember the process.
Following the clip, teacher-led discussion could centre on food processing and what happens to our food within food factories.
