A spoof news programme outlines the problems facing seabirds, including difficulties migrating, reduced fish stocks and littered beaches. Students are encouraged to think about what they put down the toilet, as this can litter beaches and threaten marine wildlife.

Pupils may want to extend news spoofs by conducting spoof interviews with birds in order for them to see the problems of bird migration from the animal point of view. After discussing the causes, pupils may design posters and leaflets encouraging people to drop less waste down the toilet and not to drop litter on the beach. A further activity would be for children to write a newspaper report sharing the issues of bird migration in the UK.
