An illustration of the economic, social and environmental impacts of building on a greenfield site. The implications for business parks, housing and wildfowl parks are explained and the costs of each proposal are outlined.
Can be used to create a debate on greenfield planning. Divide students into three groups - one should be planners for a business park, the second planners for a new housing development and the third group need to be those who are campaigning for a sustainable nature reserve. All the groups wish to develop the greenfield site for their own aims. They have to create proposals and present their argument to the rest of the class focusing on economic and environmental benefits. Who wins?
