This is a compilation of clips set to a background of music and based on the theme of materials and their uses. Includes glass and metal in buildings and bridges, precious stones, ice and ice sculptures, welding metal, wood flooring, kitchen utensils, blowing glass, stone being broken by a metal tool, plastic bottle manufacture and glass bottles recovered from wrecks.

You could ask the children to pick one of the materials introduced in the clip and write a riddle about it, describing it in as much detail as possible. They can then read the riddle to the class and the pupils have to guess the material.

Could also be used to look at environmental issues and recycling. You could invite the children to make a list of all materials introduced in the clip and investigate if they can get recycled and what could be made out of them. Perhaps ask the children to group the materials into man-made and natural. What other materials come straight from nature?
