Sorting 2D and 3D shapes
Home learning focus
Today we are going to learn how to sort 2D and 3D shapes and think deeply about their properties.
This lesson includes:
- two videos
- three activities
Created in partnership with Pearson
Today's lesson will look at sorting 2D and 3D shapes. We will use different properties, like the number of sides or faces, to sort the shapes.
We will think carefully about these properties and then use our sorting results to notice patterns and rules.
You will learn to test your ideas by investigating a range of shapes.
Remember, having ideas that turn out to be wrong is okay! Don’t be afraid to make mistakes – mistakes help you learn.
In this video Milo is sorting some 2D shapes. Can you help him sort the shapes and help him test his ideas.
In this video Eve is making a 3D shape. Can you help her investigate the properties of this shape and test some ideas by thinking carefully about its properties?
Properties of 2D shapes
The activities in this worksheet will help you practise sorting 2D shapes. Think about the properties of the shapes as you sort them.
Do you have any ideas you would like to investigate?
Sorting 2D shapes
These questions will help you practise sorting 2D shapes by different properties.
For question 1, do you remember what a polygon is? Check activity 1 if you can’t remember!
Play the shapes level of Karate Cats Maths - can you collect a cool new costume for your cats?
