This lesson includes:
a game to help refresh your phonics skills
three activities to do at home
Play the Simple Sounds mini game on Small Town Superheroes. Use the yellow arrows to navigate to the Sally and Percy section to find the Simple Sounds game.
If you can, open the game in a new tab. You can do this by right clicking on the window and selecting open link in new tab.
Once you've familiarised yourself with the simple sounds try the activities below.
You may need paper and a pen or pencil for some of these activities.
Activity 1: Hunting for sounds
Pick six sounds that were covered in the 'Simple Sounds' mini game above.
Then go on a hunt around your home or garden and try finding objects that contain the same sound. Make a list of the items you find for each sound.
Activity 2: Let's explore the UK
Watch this short video and then try the activity below.
- Write down the names of the countries that make up the UK.
- Using your phonics knowledge, try writing down any words that were in the video that you hadn't heard before.
- Using the list of new words you've created, quiz the people around you to see if they know the words.
Activity 3: Let's write some sentences
What can you remember about the UK?
Write two sentences for each country of the UK, explaining what you heard and saw in the video. If you can, try and use the new words you listed in the activity above.
Remember the countries were:
- Northern Ireland
An example sentence could look like this.
In Wales there is a really big mountain called Snowdon.
