McKenzie's Lore

From his first appearance with the fabled swingometer in 1959 to his last in 1979, Robert McKenzie often became the focal point for BBC election night coverage.

The urbane and witty Canadian broadcaster is remembered here by colleagues David Dimbleby and Robin Day, fellow psephologist and statistical sparring partner David Butler and politicians including Tony Benn and former Prime Minister Harold Macmillan.

Robert McKenzie's day job was Professor of Sociology and later Chairman of the Department of Sociology at the London School of Economics, where he had been a lecturer since 1949.
