Mark Lawson Talks to AS Byatt

As her 15th novel, 'The Children's Book', is nominated for the Man Booker Prize, AS Byatt talks to her former student Mark Lawson about the events and decisions that have shaped her work and literary style. Byatt's dedication to thought and the world of ideas is evident throughout this interview, as is her remarkably clear-sighted view of both her own writing and the theories and other literary works on which she has drawn.

Byatt's fifth novel, 'Possession: A Romance' won the Booker Prize in 1990. The story is written in many different forms, including poems, letters and diary extracts, and moves between the world of 20th-Century academia and the lives of a pair of fictional Victorian poets.
