How to succeed on YouTube

With more than 7,000 hours of news content posted to YouTube every 24 hours, journalists need to make their content stand out. YouTube strategist Kate Rushworth says one of the best ways to succeed is to have a strong editorial voice that makes it clear what the channel will deliver - either through the personality of presenters or the kind of content available.

Kate Rushworth says the thumbnail image and video’s title should never be afterthoughts: because they entice the audience they are “of paramount importance”.

Other tips she reveals in this video include getting breaking news content up as fast as possible after the event, but remembering that videos that provide background or explanation can also attract substantial interest.

And what about duration? Kate says the video should be “as long as it needs to be”.
