Colin Lawrence, Commercial Director of BBC World News Ltd, leads the commercial activities for the BBC's global news network. He's responsible for delivering BBC World News distribution and advertising sales revenue targets while ensuring activities support the BBC editorial standards.

Last year, Colin led the business into double-digit profit, launched the channel in HD and is the driving-force behind the BBC World News four-screen distribution strategy to make content available on TV, online, mobile and tablet.

Alongside his global role, Colin is also Representative Director of BBC World Japan Ltd, working with the Tokyo based team to build and support partnerships with major distribution partners, and deliver new HD and video-on-demand services in the market.

Colin has more than 20 years experience in the broadcast industry, both in domestic and international markets. He's spent over ten years with BBC Worldwide, initially as Strategy and Sales Operations Director and then as Vice President, Sales Strategy, Operations & Commercial Content. In these roles Colin led content partnerships, digital programme development, in-house production and ad-funded programme agreements. Colin was also instrumental in the launch of Video on Demand as part of BBC's international news digital strategy ahead of the launch.

Colin's international experience and broad commercial expertise played a vital role in the establishment of the global in-house advertising sales team at BBC World News and he's contributed significantly to the channel's exceptional advertising revenue growth.

Prior to joining the BBC, Colin was Sales Director of Dow Jones' Far Eastern Economic Review, a role he took up after spending nearly four years in Hong Kong, working on the launch of NBC and CNBC Asia. He started his career at the UK domestic broadcaster HTV and went on to work on the launch of GMTV, the national franchise holder for breakfast television in the UK.
