I was born in Nunhead - near Peckham in South London in 1940 and my only memories of the war are of the air raid sirens and when we were bombed out.
At that time we lived in Fernholme Road and my grandfather (Mr Jack Churchill) lived a few streets away in Hawkslade Road.
The narrative I have supplied was written by my Aunty Mary, whose maiden name was Churchill and who became Mrs Mary Lawrence, when she married my Uncle Fred.
Her account of her wartime experiences is very interesting and very well written; I hope you enjoy it.
