My father was medically discharged after WWII. When WWII started he was not allowed to enlist, so he joined the Home Guard (Dad's Army).
He volunteered to change duty with a friend, it was October 16th 1940, his 40th Birthday. While on duty, his place of duty took a direct hit, and he and two other comrades were killed outright. He left my mother and four of us children. I was the youngest 2 years old.
