This story was submitted to the People’s War website by Marie on behalf of Kathleen Milligan and has been added to the site with his permission. She fully understand the site’s terms and conditions.

I was in the A.T.S. and my husband-to-be was a Royal Marine Commando. My home was on the Isle of Wight and he was stationed there. While on leave I met him and we subsequently married on 4th May 1945. We went on honeymoon to Hastings and we were there for V.E. day - 8th May. It was one of the most memorable days of our lives - throngs of people singing, dancing in the streets and the things that stands out was not having to worry about lights being shown at the window etc.
