BBC Scotland Radio Drama has a strong track record in producing entertaining and challenging plays, serials and readings for audiences across the UK.
Based in Glasgow, but working with writers throughout Scotland and beyond, the Department's output is original and international in its outlook. The Department mainly produces work for Radio 4, Radio 3, BBC 7, BBC World Service, and Radio Scotland.
Guidelines for submitting scripts
Before submitting a script, acquaint yourself with the range of drama broadcast on BBC Radio 4 and Radio 3. See the Radio Drama guidelines for information on transmission slots, and the Radio Times or What's On for listings.
- All scripts should be type written. Character names should be printed on the left hand margin of the page. Dialogue should be indented at least 1 inch from the character name
- The script should be double spaced and only printed on one side of the paper
- The front page should have the name, address, telephone number of the writer and the title of the script. It should also have the date of submission
- A one page synopsis should accompany the script. The synopsis should state clearly what the play is about. You should also include on a separate sheet details of the main characters. Scripts sent without a synopsis will be returned unread
- Please enclose a stamped address envelope for the return of your material
- All material submitted should be the original work of the author
- We do not read unsolicited television scripts or screenplays.
- We will only consider unsolicited stage plays if accompanied by detailed notes on how the writer intends to adapt the work for radio. You should also make it clear why you think the play will be suited to a radio production
- We will not accept unsolicited scripts sent by e-mail. They will be returned unread
