Writersroom interviews...

Richard Hurst & James Cary

Writing is re-writing Paul Abbott

Writersroom interviews Richard Hurst (Miranda, Secret Diary Of A Call Girl) and James Cary (My Family, Watson & Oliver) about co-writing their first original comedy drama series, Bluestone 42.

Bluestone 42 is a BBC three comedy drama about a British bomb disposal detachment in Afghanistan. It is a series about a bunch of soldiers who love being soldiers, and the camaraderie, bonds and banter they share, even though they are risking their lives defusing hidden bombs.

Richard Hurst and James Cary talk to us about how the idea came about, the kind of research they had to do, and how involved they were in the production process.

They talk about how their writing partnership works, from planning their story out first to going through their scripts line by line.

They share how they deal with controversy around the show and how they avoid character clichés.

The next ep of Bluestone 42 is on BBC Three, Tuesday, at 10pm.

Catch it on BBC iPlayer.
