You are one of 146 million listeners to the BBC World Service's news and current affairs programmes every day.

Your life and experiences enrich and inform our output. But we want to get closer.

We want to understand more about our listeners, so we can make better programmes - and ones more tailored to what you want to hear.

We want to hear when you listen and why. What do you love about our programmes - and what do you hate?

And what could you not live without?

Do you have a story that sums up your relationship with the World Service?

Whatever you think, we want to hear from you. We also want to get a real picture of our listeners - so if you have a photo, please send it in with your story to audiences.week@bbc.co.uk

Some of your responses:

BBC World Service is my standard radio programme as we are able to receive it via cable through our cable network provider. Before that I used to tune in on my forty-year old Blaupunkt Riviera and listen to your service, accompanied by those homely crackling and wheezing noises.I use passages from your service regularly and frequently for teaching English as a foreign language. I am most dismayed to hear repeated hatemongering against my home country of Switzerland - I have noticed with sadness that your reporting style has reduced comments and information about Switzerland to negative, ridiculing or accusing comments. Claudia Jans-Strasky, Switzerland

I find that the BBC is a much more reliable source of news and information than domestic United States-based news and information sources. The BBC World Service is the gold standard against which all other media must be judged. In my opinion, the BBC is a unique source, an unrivaled source of news and information for the literate, civilized world. What would we do without you? Judy Tanner, USA

Dont charge for your video feature! This makes it the only available for those who can afford it. The BBC belongs to the world! Gerald Larson

Did you know every Cab Driver in New York City listens to you - and its not because thet are not from the US...Kevyn Smyth, USA

I couldn't live without: From Our Own Correspondent, Analysis, Global Business, John Peel. Can't stand: Outlook. What really has me angry: your "reduction" (read curtailment) due to the Olympics - I can't believe you agreed to this. Penelope Rambo

I find it amazing that the BBC considers covering the Olympics, an over-hyped, over commercialized bore, worth blacking out the real news world wide. Stephen Knoll

The BBC World Service was better when it was on short wave. We now get a very limited number of programmes in the middle of the night from local FM broadcasters, and a very limited number from the Web, subject to constant "rights" problems. We would like to have the short wave broadcasts resumed. Phil

Possibly the world's best information and entertainment on the wireless. Tom O'Connor, Australia

I strongly feel that BBC over the years has lost its independence and has become the mouthpiece of the UK and US government. I lost faith in this news channel.Sharma Appala

Initially I was sceptical of your online feedback, but now respect it. However, I am increasingly disenchanted with your news coverage. I recognise BBC funding is from UK residents, but the 'world service', although best of type, is too narrow, too colonial. Be stronger, question more, and express the diversity and common interests of the world. Otherwise, keep up the good work! Scott, Japan

I'm in the US. I'm under the impression that even though we have freedom of speech, our news is tainted by politics. Since BBC is more of a global view I think you should consistently exploit US reports whenever they are "buttered-up" - because people will believe it from a credible neutral source. Chris Chrebet, USA

I listen in the morning for 20 minutes or so, with my breakfast. It's good to listen to news, it makes me feel in touch before I start my day. Josie Hill, Taiwan

I love to hear the real taste of English spoken by the Britons. The quotent of the news is so global. BBC World Service puts the whole world on a media watch. From hiding corners of Africa to the blue waters of Australia, from war zones to peaceful lands.Reinford Mwangonde, USA

I am a long time listener of the BBC - I started listening when I was 14, almost 30 years ago. I miss the time when the BBC was more British in it's output and we could learn more about British culture by listening to programmes like About Britain, the British Press Review, live Outlook, and even the sports programmes were more British focused.  I think the BBC commits a big mistake in going after hard news or news-most -of-the-time style. I usedto listen to the BBC for about 10 hours a day, when I was younger . Thanks to it, I am told a have a very good British accent. Celso Ricardo, Rio de Janiero, Brazil

Please bring back the old Lilly Bolero tune. And please reduce the number of times that you give us the news headlines! Once an hour is plenty. Susan, Thailand

BBC World Service radio is the best thing on BBC television. That comment may sound like a joke, but is also a seriously intended observation upon the sad state of BBC television. By preference, I now listen exclusively to BBC World Service - I no longer watch any television at all, it simply does not match up to the excellent coverage provided by BBC World Service radio. Donald Taylor, UK

The BBC newspaper monitoring section is my must-read, to know what other Europeans read every day, but the free content isn't enough. I'd appreciate it if BBC can classify the content by countries - let's say if I click "France", it'll show the brief summary of head news of Le Monde, Liberation, L'express. Yau
