In the year ended 31 March 2002 and prior years, studios and associated resources were provided at
cost by a BBC supplier division. On 1 April 2002 this activity was integrated into BBC World Service,
creating the Broadcast Operations business unit. This resulted in an increase of 185 in the number of
persons employed, but no increase in overall costs.
Within the averages above, 209 (2002 163) part-time employees have been included at their full-time
equivalent of 116 (2002 89) and 69 (2002 82) persons on guaranteed minimum contracts have been
included at their full-time equivalent of 14 (2002 18).
In addition to this, BBC World Service employed an average 83 (2002 70) persons on a casual basis.
