Owners Agree Critical Measures to Strengthen Private Media

The workshop on Strengthening Africa's Private Independent Media, held during June 2006 in Johannesburg, South Africa, drew together a diverse range of media owners and entrepreneurs, as well as from international organisations including the African Development Bank, NEPAD Secretariat, World Bank and UNESCO. It provided a forum for members of the African private media to share their views of key challenges and opportunities for media sector support. The workshop report sets out agreed recommendations on actions to address the regulatory, financial and capacity issues affecting the operation and growth of private media.

Le Séminaire Renforcement des Médias Privés Indépendants d'Afrique, Juin 2006 Johannesburg, South Africa, a reuni divers propriétaires et entrepreneurs du secteur des médias ainsi que des représentants d'organisations internationales comme la Banque Africaine de Développement, le Secrétariat du Nepad, la Banque Mondiale et l'Unesco. Cette rencontre a permis aux acteurs des médias privés du continent de discuter des principaux défis du secteur mais également des opportunités de soutien qui y existent. Le rapport final du séminaire dresse nombre de recommendations liées au cadre réglementaire, aux questions financières mais aussi de capacités qui affectent le fonctionnement et le développement des médias privés d'Afrique
