This month, the spotlight shines on the expertise of the Trust’s Research & Learning (R&L) Group.

Within the last three years, the team has expanded from two to 38 members globally, delivering valuable expertise in media, communications and audience insight.

With headquarters in London and team members in Abuja, Dar es Salaam, Delhi, Dhaka, Kabul, Luanda, and Phnom Penh, the R&L Group has delivered research in 22 languages across 39 countries to date.

The international team of research professionals focus on four key activities;

• To provide audience and market insights for project development.
• To conduct qualitative and quantitative research to measure impact.
• To build capacity in audience research skills.
• To disseminate knowledge and information from research conducted.

The R&L Group is renowned for its reach. It has conducted research with rural dwellers in Afghanistan and run focus groups with Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Sudan.

It engages and reaches out to its audience at four individual levels;

• Sector - focusing on policy and decision makers.
• Organisation - liaising with state, commercial and not-for-profit entities.
• Practitioner - engaging with professionals and opinion formers
• Individual - a range of target audiences.

Formative research, pre-testing, audience feedback and impact evaluation are just some of the methodologies used by the group to deliver rigorous research.
