Children participating in a REACH project

The BBC’s Afghan Education Project (AEP) has been operating since April 1994 and out of Kabul since October 2002. Radio Education for Afghan Children (REACH) is one of its key projects.

REACH is an exciting initiative to help address the educational needs of Afghan children, both inside and outside school.

Our World, Our Future

The series entitled “Our World, Our Future” is designed to broaden children’s horizons by stimulating their imagination and their desire to learn.

It is not a replacement for formal education, but complements and enhances it with learning about the local physical environment and about life.

The main focus is children between the ages of 6 and 16, who listen to radio at home. “Our World, Our Future” is intended to be entertaining and relevant to children’s everyday lives.

The programmes are child centered and encourage the children listening to become active learners, by giving them tasks to do during and after the programmes that will empower them to learn independently in their local surroundings.

They help children to think and learn for themselves.
