The BBC World Service Trust has launched a website for its Afghan Education Projects (AEP). The site is named after 'Nazer', one of the most popular characters in AEP's radio soap, 'New Home, New Life'. Pashto and Dari speaking audiences, both inside and outside Afghanistan, will now be able to listen to their favourite AEP radio programmes using the internet. Primarily aimed at Afghan audiences both Dari and Pashto, the site has downloadable lesson plans for schools; promotes the Trust's books and magazine for children and features artwork, stories and photographs contributed by audiences. A flourishing media environment The media industry in Afghanistan has changed dramatically since Taleban rule came to an end in 2002. There are now more than 40 private radio stations and seven television stations in the country, with substantial growth in new technology, such as mobile phones and internet access. Outside Afghanistan, more people listen to the Trust's AEP radio programmes on the internet than on the radio. | LOCAL LINKS The Afghan education projects18 April, 2007 | Our Work in Asia Mareena: the paralympic sports girl 15 January, 2007 | Media Development New HIV and AIDS storyline for Afghan drama23 November, 2006 | Media Development | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
