
Andrew Lawrence joined the BBC World Service Trust in March 2008 as Director of Finance and Business Services.
Andrew provides leadership and management in the areas of finance, IT and systems, legal, procurement and business compliance for the Trust.
Andrew began his career in South Wales working within the accountancy profession for Coopers and Lybrand and Grant Thornton where he qualified as a chartered accountant.
His interest in developing countries led him to live and work in Kenya where he worked as a management consultant for Price Waterhouse.
Amongst other projects in the East Africa region he set up accounting systems and managed the finances at the Ugandan Electoral Commission at the time of the Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
After senior management roles in the food manufacturing industry and the water industry Andrew moved into the charity sector as Finance and Operations Director at the Evangelical Alliance.
In 2005 Andrew was appointed Finance Director at WaterAid, an international development NGO operating in Africa and Asia.
He led the improvements in financial management and reporting, management information systems and risk management during a period of rapid growth and change for WaterAid.
Andrew graduated from the University of Wales, Cardiff with a BSC in Economics.
He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (FCA) and a member of the finance and management faculty and the Charity Finance Directors' Group.
Andrew is a trustee of Samaritan's Purse International - an international relief and development organisation.
