What are the dreams of children?

world
Two years ago, more than 2000 Peruvian children living in very poor conditions started to take part in Children of the Millennium Project run by Save the Children UK and other international research organisations.

The project gathered information on the lives of more than 3000 children living in poverty in Peru. The largest group consists of 2000 babies under a year old and will monitor the first fifteen years of their lives.

The second group comprises 1000 children aged between 7 and 8 years old, whose opinions enabled us to gain an insight on the mental health, education, work and play conditions of Peruvian children of this age group.

Huaraz and Huaycan by Lima

These children, now nine years old, are from Huaraz, a town dwarfed by the towering Andes mountains. They were the ones who grabbed the microphones in order to ask the questions and be the journalists.

The children are also from Huaycan, an area in the mountains on the outskirts of Lima. Their camera work enabled us to observe their surroundings.

Hopes and dreams

What are the hopes and dreams of these children?

That was the question that took Ana-Lucia Gonzalez and Carolina Robino, of BBC Mundo, to Peru. The answers form the basis of PERU: MY LIFE DIARIES - a series of audio and visual diaries, created with photographs taken by the children and their families.

These diaries contain audio. Before clicking on each story, please check that your speakers are properly connected.
