Want to adopt an NBA team?

Find out which NBA team Sportsworld have twinned with your favourite football team:

Manchester United

Boston Celtics- steeped in history and have a loyal band of successful players. They have won the NBA championship 17 times, which is an NBA record. The Celtics have a bitter rivalry with the LA Lakers. Defence and clever passing has always been Boston's trademark. Today Kevin Garnett is their key player. The power forward scores points and grabs plenty of rebounds. He helped them win their last title in 2008. Coached by Doc Rivers.

Arsenal

Chicago Bulls - The Bulls are one of the great basketball dynasties. They dominated the league in great style during the 1990s but right now they're looking for a trophy after several barren years. Michael Jordon, the most famous name in the game helped the Bulls win 6 NBA titles. Jordan 's style of play defined the team. He appeared to defy gravity when going up to the basket, often with his tongue hanging out of his mouth He is perhaps the most complete package of grace, creativity and athleticism in the game. Today, Britain's Luol Deng is their main points scorer. Vinny Del Negro is their coach and is yet to prove himself at the top level. The Bulls look a little weak offensively and may miss Ben Gordon, their point guard this season.

Chelsea

San Antonio Spurs - an ageing team of brilliant professionals who have an excellent record of making the play-offs. They have won the title 4 times, dominating the league at the turn of this century. They won their first title in 1999 and their last back in 2007. The team have a real international feel. They rely on France's Tony Parker at point guard to make quick and creative plays. Manu Ginobili of Argentina is quick and aggressive and he has a great presence in the back court. The Virgin Islands' Tim Duncan is a big and reliable defensive player. A great team that look sharp this season but they are prone to injury problems and where's the next generation going to come from?

Liverpool

New York Knicks - they have passionate fans and a prestigious home-court but while they were big in the 1970s they are now struggling to recapture former glories. Their most famous players include Phil Jackson - who now coaches the Lakers - and Patrick Ewing who played centre. Today the Knicks are struggling defensively but they have a great Italian shooter in Danilo Gallinari. He can hit the three-pointers from a long, long way out but they need a fully fit squad. Their coach Mike D'Antoni is reknowed for his attacking style but so far it's not worked for the Knicks.

Tottenham Hotspur

Miami Heat - The Heat won their one and only title in 2006. They rely heavily on Dwayne Wade’s speed on the floor and his ice-cool calm at the free-throw line. Wade, or Flashman as he is known, has scored over 10,000 points with the Heat. He is an exciting player to watch, especially as he often dances around bigger opponents. This season they hope centre Jermaine O'Neal will add a big-man foil to Wade's speed and agility. The Heat's manager is one of the most famous men in the game. Pat Riley has served as the head coach of five championship teams. He was head coach at the Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Knicks. He won the NBA title with the Lakers in 1972.

Manchester City

Orlando Magic - A relatively new franchise but, a top four darkhorse. Orlando's key player is Dwight Howard at centre. His presence under the basket at both ends of the court took the Magic to the Eastern Conference final in 2009, where they beat Lebron James' Cleveland side. Howard, known as Superman, is best at rebounding. They have a few key internationals in their squad, including Poland's big man Marcin Gortat and France's Mickaël Piétrus. If this was football, Piétrus, would be the utility player. They play in blue and white.

Newcastle United

Washington Wizards - The one-time Chicago Packers have had a more names than titles. They have a long and checkered history but their glory years are a long way off and have only won the title once in 1978. Their most recent claim to fame was a short-lived place in the squad for an ageing Michael Jordan. The franchise might be slowly coming out of the slump but early indications on court are that the Wizards are yet to discover their magic touch in front of the basket. The fans' blogs often sound disgruntled! They need young players like centre Andray Blatche to come good. Blatche wears number 7 - which stands for seven days of hard work.
