'Free to Speak' events

To celebrate the 75th anniversary of BBC World Service and as part of the 'Free to Speak' season, a series of global events were held.

In London, 'The Reith Global Debate' brings together former Reith lecturers Onora O'Neill, Jeffrey Sachs and Wole Soyinka to discuss the freedom of speech.

From Delhi, New York and Cairo, a series of 'BBC World Service Debates' discuss questions as diverse as 'Is there a future for public-service broadcasting?'; 'Is it ever right to limit free speech?'; and, 'Is New Media the only truly independent journalism in the Middle East today?'

The 75th anniversary brings together talent from all over the world: the line-up includes Squeeze, Daby Toure, Toumast, Katie Melua and Carbon Silicon. Also featuring in the concert are the winners of The Next Big Thing 2007, Yunasi.
