In the Sandals of a Saint
But what do present day people of Calcutta think of Mother Teresa? Is the city still a place that needs rescuing by a Catholic nun? A specific image of this woman and this city was built up by Western film-makers and journalists over a period of 30 years. And then came the professional debunkers, the critics and the cynics. But for fellow Albanians, Mother Teresa has always been their own national heroine, the best-known Albanian on the planet. Eight years after the Catholic Sister's death, but with the city very much alive and thriving, fellow Albanian Irena Luto goes in search of the real mother and the real city.
