![]() Introduction The London skyline is one of the most famous in the world. Dominated by St Paul's Cathedral and the Canary Wharf tower, it is a view of the largest city in Europe – and one of the world's most popular tourist destinations. Many of the sights of the capital – the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace – are the images that spring to mind when thinking of Britain, and with good reason. Some of these sights are definitely worth their international reputation. Westminster Abbey, with its many famous graves, has often been the focal point of both national celebration and national grief. The combined Houses of Commons and Lords are known as "the mother of all Parliaments" - although actually the first parliament was established in Iceland. London is of course also home to a great deal of the country's treasures, from the Rosetta Stone to the Crown Jewels. They are kept in some of the most impressive, and important, museums on the planet. Best of all, many of these are free. And of course, there are always the world-renowned modern attractions, such as the London Eye and the Imax cinema, for when all that history gets just too much.
