Anoushka Shankar
Playing from the age of nine, Anoushka made her performing debut in New Dehli, India, at 13. Her 2001 album, Live at Carnegie Hall, was nominated for a Grammy Award, making her the youngest ever nominee in that category. At home in the classical Indian tradition yet unafraid of pushing the boundaries in search of new sounds, Anoushka recorded Rise which combines Eastern and Western sounds in a blend of acoustic and electronic instruments and was composed, produced and arranged by the musician herself. Anoushka has a wide range of interests which include composing, conducting, acting (she appeared in the Pamela Rooks film Dance Like a Man) and writing (her book Bapi, the Love of My Life is available in both English and French). As her solo career continues to blossom, it seems she is poised to carry forward her father's legacy as one of the most creative and influential figures in the music world. |
