The vast majority of children in Helmand cannot go to school |
One year after reporting from Afghanistan, Jill McGivering returns to the troubled southern province of Helmand to assess efforts to deliver development to the area.
The international community is pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into the province. But the battle against the insurgency undermines these efforts and Helmand faces daily violence.
In this Assignment programme, Jill talks to development workers and local Afghans to find out whether they think the attempt to win over hearts and minds is working.
