In Assignment Jeremy Bowen travels to Gaza, to ask where the recent conflict leaves the region's future.

Israel began its offensive on Gaza on December 27th. The Israeli government said it was a war of self defence, an answer to eight years of rocket fire.

The bombardment continued for 22 days. Israel killed around 1300 Palestinians, including armed men, civilians and hundreds of children. During the conflict, Hamas killed four Israeli civilians.

Jeremy Bowen investigates claims Israel used reckless force in Gaza, and asks whether there is any hope for a solution to the conflict.
