Inside Somalia's Insurgency

Islamist fighters in Somalia
Ethiopia is increasingly being drawn into the dangerous and unpredictable world of Somali politics.

Their troops are now bogged down fighting a growing insurgency and they stand accused by human rights groups and others of the indiscriminate killing of civilians.

Has the presence of the Ethiopians helped create precisely the threat they and the United States had hoped to eradicate?

For Assignment, Rob Walker gains unprecedented access to the Islamist group, the Al Shabab, a radical movement more extreme than the Islamic Courts group ousted by the Ethiopians just over a year ago.

First broadcast April 2008
