A brief history of one of the world's greatest broadcasters

From its very first broadcasts in December 1932, BBC World Service has been through enormous changes in response to global conflict, the break-up of the British Empire, the emergence of new nation-states, and enormous innovations in the means of making and broadcasting programmes.

To mark the 70th anniversary of the organisation’s first broadcasts, some of the most widely-respected of the BBC’s correspondents look at key episodes and general trends that show how the Service has developed – and assesses where it may go in the future.
