Writer and performer, Penny Pepper

Penny Pepper

In programme two writer and performer Penny Pepper discusses how her frank depiction of disabled sexuality, in her short story collection Desires, shocked many.
Penny, a wheelchair-user, talks about escaping from the limitations of institutional care and unsympathetic medical regimes to fulfil her dreams of writing and self-expression in theatre, song and print.

Fancy Nancy, the novel she’s currently writing, contrasts the lives of modern disabled people with the denizens of a Victorian freak-show at the time of the Elephant Man.
