The Greeks divided their sports into two groups: ‘heavy’ and ‘light’. The heavy games included boxing, wrestling and a no-holds-barred grappling contest called pankration. The ‘light’ games were the running races. There were also equestrian events. One of the most famous ancient Olympic athletes was a wrestler called Milo. He won six consecutive victories, and was reputed to have entered the Stadium with a heifer on his shoulders to intimidate his opponents.
