The General's Report

The Iraq "surge" has seen the US deploy an extra 30,000 troops this year in an effort to control the spiralling violence in the capital Baghdad. But has it worked?

In this special programme from BBC World Service, US Commander General David Petraeus, together with the US Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker, present their report on whether the surge been successful live to the Congress.

General Petraeus is expected to say that the surge has worked well enough to continue the strategy, and will not to set a timetable for withdrawal.

Our news teams bring you this report live - together with reaction and analysis from Washington, Iraq, Syria and from the US troops themselves.
