Barbados' legacy of slavery?

Bussa
Two hundred years ago, the island of Barbados in the Caribbean was the market place for selling Africans shipped from their homeland by the trans-Atlantic slave trade.

Today, Barbados is independent. Most of the country's politicians are black, and black Barbadians are represented in all walks of life.

But some Barbadians believe the economy is still controlled by a minority of white families - some of whom built up their wealth during the era of slavery. Society too remains stratified along colour lines.

As part of our season of programmes marking the 200th anniversary of Britain's decision to abolish the trans-Atlantic slave trade, Emma Joseph travels to Barbados to find out if there is an economic legacy of slavery.
