This category is for outstanding sports coverage that has provided listeners with a compelling, lively and entertaining experience either of an event or through a sports discussion show.

James Mwangi Wokabi - Capital FM
WINNER

 
James Mwangi Wokabi from Capital FM in Kenya submitted ambitious stories including a joint interview with the great sporting rivals, Paul Tergat of Kenya and Haile Gebreselassie of Ethiopia.

Local On-Air Campaign of the Year

 
This category is designed to honour stations that have carried out or supported a social campaign or initiative that has had a positive affect on the lives of the listening community that the station serves.

John Robbie - Talk Radio 702
John Robbie, from Talk Radio 702 in South Africa, ran an on-air campaign that rallied against the taxing of payouts to families of police officers killed in the line of duty. As a result the government acted and changed the law earlier this year.

Radio Waumini
Radio Waumini from Kenya are nominated for their creative campaign - educating and empowering the public on issues around HIV.

Matilda Asante - Joy FM
WINNER

 
Joy FM is a selected finalist for exposing to audiences the heartbreaking story of a seven-year-old girl who was raped by a relative, and for bringing the issue of the abuse of young girls to a national forum. The station also raised funds for the young girl's treatment.

Nthombikayise Queeneth Mdluli Jacha from Feba Radio/SFM in Zimbabwe was selected for her show Faith in Action. It discussed the parenting of teenagers and children's rights.

The radio show Chit Chat, on Capital FM in Kenya, discussed the culturally taboo subject of domestic violence.

Open to all radio stations which began broadcasting on or after September 1, 2004, this award goes to a new station which has made an impact and built an audience since launching through relevant and creative programming, and by providing balanced, unbiased news reporting.The judges were looking for the station that has best filled a gap in the market through quality and pertinent output.

Radio Pacis
WINNER

 
Radio Pacis proved that they are truly a community radio station by the programmes they broadcast from the town of Arua in the West Nile region of Uganda.

To be awarded to the station that best serves its listeners' needs through the breadth and variety of its programming, balanced, impartial news reporting and local interests. Entrants had to demonstrate how they go beyond normal programming to make a difference to listeners' lives

Talk Radio 702
WINNER

 
Talk Radio 702 from South Africa showcased the first African film to win an Oscar, Tsotsi; the World Cup trophy visit to South Africa; the Jacob Zuma press conference and the Johannesburg town forum ahead of the 2006 Municipal Elections. Their entry showed their immense influence on audiences locally and nationally.

Ghanaian station, Joy FM's showcase included a campaign to raise funds for a young rape victim and the first interview with a gay person in Ghana. They demonstrated that their audiences are central to their programming.
