- This category celebrates the skill and tenacity of a journalist who has explored, exposed or described a news story that has had local or national significance
- They must demonstrate integrity, originality and how they broke the story
- The programme or series must have be broadcast on or after 1 January, 2006
- Freelance journalists are eligible to enter, but any journalist on a current contract with the BBC will be excluded
Information Needed for Entry
- A sample of the programming created from the investigation must be submitted
- This can be one clip or a number of extracts if a series was created
- These must not exceed a total of 30 minutes and no editing is permitted within each extract
- In addition to a completed entry form the journalist must, in no more than 250 words: summarise the news story; explain why their coverage was of particular significance; and highlight any difficulties which needed to be overcome to report on the story
Prize
The winning journalist receives one week all expenses paid trip to London, including time spent with the BBC's African News & Current Affairs department.
