The Judging Process

The deadline for entries has now close, the BBC is now compiling a Next Big Thing longlist of the World's Best 20 tracks.

26 - 30 November

The Longlist of the best 20 tracks will be sent to be reviewed by our Global Panel (DJs, artists, record industry types and music journalists from around the world).

At the same time, we will invite listeners to comment on their favourite tracks on our MySpace page.

3 December

We announce our finalists - five bands who are the brightest future for music. Over the weeks each will be profiled on air on the BBC airwaves as well as online.

9 December

The Final! The five finalists will each play a live session for our Grand Jury of big-name music industry judges.

This session will be filmed at the BBC's legendary Maida Vale studios in London. Some bands will be invited to London and some may be pre-recorded in their own countries.

On the night our jury decides - one act will be crowned The Next Big Thing 2007.

The PRIZE!

The winner will be "The Next Big Thing 2007" and have their music played to our 183 million listeners worldwide.

They will also be invited to perform onstage alongside a star band at a global concert to celebrate 75 years of BBC World Service broadcasting on 15 December.

Listen

The final will be broadcast on the BBC World Service on Thursday 13 December.

The winner will be announced online simultaneously.

BBC World TV will be broadcasting highlights from the final at a date to be confirmed.
