![]() Taskin Mustafa As event organiser at the Regency Banqueting Suite, Taskin Mustafa works at one of Bruce Grove’s grandest venues. His father came from Cyprus to London in the 1960s and was determined to do well for himself. Now business is booming. “Saturday night down Bruce Grove is as busy as Leicester Square. You find a mixture of people here. If we have a Turkish wedding on you will have 400 Turks hovering around Bruce Grove. All different nationalities come here. Dad started out in photography with his brother-in-law. At the weekend they would photograph weddings. There were no Turkish or Greek photographers as much in those days photographing the community’s weddings. They noticed that there weren’t any caterers around; you had to cook your own food. All the mums and aunts and cousins would cook the food at home and bring it in. It was all very hands on and the whole family would roll up their sleeves. Dad could see that there was a gap. By providing a complete service, where no family would get involved, they could instead enjoy the wedding. I’m doing weddings now of my generation and my father did their parents weddings. It’s a nice business to work in because you are putting smiles on faces." ![]() |
