The Parletta Family

The San Marco Italian restaurant has been a fixture of the Bruce Grove community for 31 years.

Graziano Parletta helps to run the restaurant with his parents where he proudly displays the brightly coloured cityscapes that he paints.

“The restaurant has been a very labour intensive activity. We are not a very busy restaurant and haven’t been able to employ more people, and so the three of us have done all the work ourselves.

People know me as the restaurant owner who is a painter as well.

I use it as a place to exhibit my paintings and as such I am imparting my soul to the customers that come in.

My father does the same but he does it through food. He puts all his energies and integrity into producing good food.

Very often I will close up shop and go round the back and start to paint. I make myself a clearing and take out my palette and paints. I put some music on and away I go.

I will spend the best part of the evening, sometimes into the early hours, painting. I am the only person here.

I shut myself off from the world and away I go."
