The economic downturn has forced people, companies and governments to make very difficult choices. What must be sacrificed to keep the economy afloat?

One of the most difficult decisions is over the environment. Splendid natural resources, or promises to cut carbon emissions, may need to be jettisoned in order to get money now.

Julian Siddle visited Iceland - one of the countries most deeply affected by the credit crunch - to find out how the government there is trying to face this dilemma.
