"Loewenhoek
used the microscope perhaps more extensively than
anyone else at this time to investigate the body.
He
described what were later recognised to be blood
corpuscles. He described small creatures which
people later called bacteria.
Loewenhoek
himself ground his own lenses and he found he
was actually able to get much much better and
clearer magnification using one lens than two."
