"Condoms
had been around for centuries of course, and then
in the 19th century, towards the end of the century,
rubber condoms became available.
At first these were jolly thick and usually they
were washed out and reused, but just before the
Second World War, Latex condoms became available
which is a much thinner form of rubber.
And they were universally disposable and gradually
condoms became extremely inexpensive and not the
very luxury item that they had been for centuries
beforehand."
